Most honeymoon shortlists are full of overwater villas. The Galápagos is a different kind of romantic: waking at anchor off an island with no buildings on it, snorkeling side by side with a sea turtle, and watching the sun go down from your own balcony with nobody else around for miles.

It works best when you pick the right boat or lodge. Here is how to plan a Galápagos honeymoon in 2027, from suites and lodges to timing and mainland add-ons.

Quick Answer

For a Galápagos honeymoon, book a 7-night cruise on a luxury yacht (Aqua Mare, 16 guests) or an all-suite ship (Celebrity Flora or Silver Origin), go between December and May for warm water and calm seas, and add 3–5 days in Quito, the cloud forest or Machu Picchu. Budget roughly $14,000–$30,000+ for two before international flights.

1. Choose Your Honeymoon Style

Cruise for the islands, lodge for the downtime, or both.

For most couples, a cruise is the better honeymoon. You sleep while the ship moves, reach remote islands that day trips cannot, and every meal is handled. A lodge-based trip gives you more space, a pool and lie-ins, but more time on speedboats. Many honeymooners split the difference: a 4- or 5-night cruise plus two or three nights at a lodge on Santa Cruz.

Style Best for Trade-off
Luxury small yacht (16 guests) Privacy, intimate dining, remote islands More motion than a big ship
All-suite ship (90–100 guests) Balconies, spa, polished service Less intimate, more guests ashore
Luxury lodge Space, pools, flexible days Long boat rides, fewer remote sites
Cruise plus lodge Best of both More transfers to plan

2. The Most Romantic Yachts and Ships

Three standouts for couples, each with a different idea of luxury.

Aqua Mare: best for privacy

Aqua Expeditions’ 16-guest motor yacht has seven suites, including an 80 m² owner’s suite billed as the largest in the islands, a jacuzzi on deck and water toys. Published prices start around $12,700 per person for 8 days. It is also popular for private charters, so check open departures early.

Celebrity Flora: best balcony suites

Flora carries about 100 guests in 50 suites: 26 with true balconies and 24 with “Infinite Veranda” glass walls that open partway. Sky Suites start at 224 sq ft, and the two-room Penthouse Suites run to 1,288 sq ft. The signature honeymoon moment is the optional top-deck glamping night, with dinner, stargazing with a naturalist and a bed under the stars. Read the Celebrity Flora review.

Silver Origin: best for service

Silversea’s 100-guest ship is all suites, each with butler service, and pricing includes drinks, excursions and gratuities. It is quieter in tone than Flora and draws an older crowd. Comparing the two? See Celebrity Flora vs Silver Origin.

On a tighter budget, a first-class catamaran or motor yacht with 16 guests and a private double cabin can still feel very romantic, at roughly half the price. Our luxury Galápagos cruises guide compares the top tier in full.

3. Which Suite to Book

Spend on the cabin, not the upgrades you will not use.

You will spend more waking hours in your cabin on a Galápagos honeymoon than you might expect: afternoon siestas between outings, early nights before dawn landings. A few rules help:

  • Book a double bed, not twins. Many yacht cabins are convertible; confirm the configuration in writing.
  • Prefer an upper or main deck. Bigger windows, and on larger ships, a balcony.
  • Pick midship if you are prone to seasickness. It moves least.
  • Ask about honeymoon touches. Many operators add sparkling wine or a private dinner on request, though perks vary.

4. Romantic Lodges on Land

For couples who want a pool and a slower pace.

  • Pikaia Lodge, Santa Cruz highlands: 14 rooms on a volcanic ridge with floor-to-ceiling windows, soaking tubs, an infinity pool and a spa. It holds two Michelin Keys and only accepts children 8 and up, so it stays quiet.
  • Galapagos Safari Camp, Santa Cruz highlands: a small luxury tented camp on a farm, with views to the coast and a relaxed, Africa-style feel.
  • Finch Bay Galápagos Hotel, Puerto Ayora: a beachfront eco-hotel across the bay from town, reached by water taxi, with easy access to Tortuga Bay and Las Grietas.

All three work as a two- or three-night add-on before or after a cruise. Compare more options in our best Galápagos hotels roundup.

5. When to Go

Warm and calm, or cool and wild.

The warm season, about December to May, brings water around 24–26°C, calmer seas and blue-sky days broken by short showers. It is the easiest season for couples who want to snorkel every day. The cool “garúa” season, about June to November, has water around 19–22°C, overcast skies and rougher seas, especially in August and September, but also richer marine life and courting albatross on Española (roughly April to December).

Many weddings fall in June or September, which lands you in the cool season. That is no hardship; pack a wetsuit. Just note that mid-June to August and mid-December to January are peak demand, so the best suites go 9–12 months ahead. Our guide to the best time to visit the Galápagos goes month by month.

6. A Sample 10-Day Galápagos Honeymoon

One week at sea, with a soft landing on either side.

Day Plan
1 Arrive Quito; boutique hotel in the Old Town
2 Quito at leisure; pay the Transit Control Card online; it is validated at the airport the next morning
3–9 Fly to Baltra or San Cristóbal; 7-night cruise
10 Fly back to the mainland and connect home, or extend

To slow it down, swap the last two cruise nights for Pikaia Lodge or Finch Bay. Southern or eastern routes, with Española and Floreana, are especially good for honeymooners who want beaches.

7. Adding Mainland Ecuador or Peru

Altitude first, islands last.

Quito sits at about 2,850 m, so a couple of easy days there doubles as acclimatization. Popular romantic add-ons include:

  • Quito’s historic center: colonial churches, rooftop dinners and boutique hotels such as Casa Gangotena.
  • The Chocó cloud forest: Mashpi Lodge, about 3–4 hours from Quito, for hummingbirds, waterfalls and glass-walled rooms.
  • The Amazon: a lodge stay of 3–4 nights; see the Galápagos and the Amazon.
  • Machu Picchu: fly between Quito or Guayaquil and Lima, then on to Cusco; our guide to Galápagos and Machu Picchu has full routings.

When combining, do the high-altitude part first and finish in the islands. Nothing beats ending a honeymoon at sea level with a cocktail on deck.

8. What a Galápagos Honeymoon Costs for Two

The cruise is most of the bill.

Item (for two) Mid-range Luxury
7-night cruise $7,000–$10,000 $12,000–$26,000+
Mainland–islands flights $600–$1,200 $600–$1,200 (sometimes included)
Park fee + Transit Control Card $440 $440
Tips (crew and guide) $500–$800 $600–$1,000 (included on some ships)
2–3 nights in Quito or a lodge $400–$900 $1,500–$4,000
Total, before international flights about $9,000–$13,000 about $14,000–$30,000+

Bring US dollars in cash for the park fee, Transit Control Card and tips. Protect a trip this size with cover for cancellation and medical evacuation; compare plans on our Galápagos travel insurance page.

Galápagos Honeymoon FAQ

Is the Galápagos good for a honeymoon?

Yes, if your idea of romance includes snorkeling with sea lions and sunsets on deck rather than lazy beach days. A small luxury yacht or an all-suite ship gives you the wildlife plus privacy, good food and a proper bed.

What is the most romantic Galápagos cruise?

For privacy, a 16-guest luxury yacht such as Aqua Mare is hard to beat. For a suite with a balcony and polished service, Celebrity Flora and Silver Origin are the top choices, and Flora’s optional night of glamping under the stars is a honeymoon favorite.

How much does a Galápagos honeymoon cost?

For two people, a luxury week typically runs about $14,000–$30,000+ including the cruise, mainland–islands flights, park fees and tips, before international flights. Mid-range yachts can bring that down to roughly $9,000–$13,000.

What is the best month for a Galápagos honeymoon?

December to May brings warmer water, calmer seas and more sunshine, which suits most couples. June to November is cooler and choppier but has richer marine life and fits a summer or early-fall wedding.

Can we combine the Galápagos with Machu Picchu on a honeymoon?

Yes. Allow 12 to 16 days in total, fly between Quito or Guayaquil and Lima, and do Peru’s altitude first so you finish relaxing at sea level in the islands.
