Why Book With a Galápagos Travel Agent

Usually it costs you nothing extra. Here is what a specialist does that a booking site can’t, and how to pick a good one.

Is a Travel Agent More Expensive?

Generally, no. Cruise and tour operators pay agents a commission out of the same fare you would pay booking direct, so the price is usually identical. Often it is lower: operators give agents access to promotional rates, cabin upgrades and onboard credit that never appear on public booking sites.

Where an agent really earns their keep is the stuff around the cruise. Match the wrong flight to your ship’s start island and you miss the boat. Book a short cruise without checking how much of day one is airport transfers and you’ve paid for time at sea you never get.

How to Choose a Galápagos Travel Agent

For most travelers, a good agent passes five simple tests:

  • Compares many operators. If they only sell one company’s ships, you are getting a sales pitch, not advice.
  • Asks before recommending. Budget, dates, mobility, seasickness and the animals you care about should come before any quote.
  • Explains the itinerary. They should tell you which islands each route visits and why that matters for you.
  • Is clear about money. Prices in writing, what’s included, and how they are paid.
  • Covers the logistics. Flights, park fee, Transit Control Card and insurance should be part of the plan.
